The Medical Social Work Department of the Rotunda frequently encounters patients who require immediate assistance due to crisis circumstances. The team provides a comprehensive social work service to patients, their partners and their families. It operates from the rationale that addressing problems in a timely manner can prevent their escalation and can serve to minimise the distress experienced by patients.
There is a social worker attached to each of the hospital’s four obstetric teams and to each of the larger specialist clinics an units. The main activities of the department are in, Homelessness, Child Protection, Domestic Violence, Mental Illness, Teenage Pregnancy Clinic, Bereavement, Fetal Medicine Services, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
Donations to this fund helps to provide such services as basic supplies of clothing and other urgent necessities to new mothers and their babies.
